Its a well known fact that the tail gate on the Tacoma is lacking some metal and bends easily under load. Simply loading an ATV, motorcycle, or garden equipment can bend the tail gate of these trucks before you even realize what is happening.
The solution? Add our panel and cover the tailgate with some real metal!
Our tail gate reinforcement plates are CNC cut and then precision formed on a CNC press brake for a consistent fit. The end result is a more solid feeling and slightly heavier tail gate that is much stronger, and leaves the user with little worry of bending it under the most common loads. Our panels not only cover the interior of the tailgate and give a flat surface, but also wraps over the top and outside of the tailgate. This addition to the panel adds rigidity and strength with minimal added weight so you have the benefit of a smooth surface for loading and unloading gear in your truck or setting your beverage on, cooking at camp, etc but also less worry of damaging the tailgate.
Install:
These reinforcements will require drilling to attach to tailgate. Necessary sheet metal screws will be supplied.
*If ordering the steel reinforcement plate, please note that some type of finish is required before install to keep it from rusting. I would recommend a DIY bed liner coating. Aluminum can be left bare with some eventual oxidation, or coated in your choice of coating as well *
We also recommend some 'camper tape' adhesive foam along the back side of the lip on the reinforcement to protect the tailgate during install and usage. There is approximately a 1/4" spacing from tailgate for adhesive backed foam paint protection if desired
* Aluminum is 5052 marine grade and can be left bare with some eventual dulling from surface oxidation, or coated in your choice of coating as well *
Please note, as with anything made of metal, these panels will get HOT when exposed to direct sunlight.
